As Michael grew older and his career progressed, many rumors started to spread around about him. Ones that questioned his sexual orientation, his absurd skin changes, and what seemed to be plastic surgery that had been done to his face. In this interview, Michael says, "Once you hear a lie for long enough, it begins to seem true." Michael explains that his sexual orientation is not to be questioned, because the rumors going around saying that he was homosexual were not true. He also had a skin disorder called vitiligo, which causes his skin to become lighter. This was also the reason for him walking around outside always carrying an umbrella, because the sun could severely damage his skin. Michael also states how he had only had two types of cosmetic surgeries done to his nose, so he could hit higher notes when singing. it is shown that Michael was extremely misunderstood, and that the media can be cruel. This also teaches us humans that we shouldn't believe everything we hear or read from the media, whether it be on television, or in a magazine or newspaper. With this I question; where did these rumors unfold and why did people believe them?

I believe that the rumors unfolded from Michael's enemies or ex-friends, due to their jealousy or even the thought that if Michael Jackson stepped down, they would be more famous than Jackson. People believed them, because people today almost seem to believe any kind of rumor: from the rumors that Obama was dead to the rumors that Kanye was going to commit suicide.
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad to know that people spent so much time worrying about they way in which Michael presented himself to the public. What is even worse was that the lies that were spreading had become so common amongst everyday conversation that, in a way, they became true. Theses statements were in fact not true, which just goes to show that we shouldn't beieve everything we hear.
